The Sofia City Prosecution Office (SCPO) has pressed charges against seven individuals for participation in an organized crime group involved in corruption, the prosecution office said Thursday. The SCPO has also ordered their detention for up to 72 hours.
According to the charges, these individuals took part in an organized crime group that had operated in Sofia, Varna, and other parts of the country between January 2013 and November 26, 2025. The group was established to commit offences including embezzlement by officials, fraud, and money laundering.
The individuals were arrested and charged as part of a pre-trial investigation. This comes after a large-scale special operation the Sofia City Prosecution Office conducted jointly with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Sofia, Varna, Shumen, Pazardzhik, and the village of Neofit Rilski on Wednesday and Thursday.
During searches and seizures, a significant amount of material evidence, including various documents, mobile phones, laptops, and other items, was confiscated.
On November 29, the Sofia City Prosecution Office is expected to submit requests to the Sofia City Court seeking that all seven defendants be remanded in custody.
On Wednesday, the prosecution office said that it was conducting a large-scale joint operation with the Anti-Corruption Commission. The pre-trial proceedings were initiated on December 9, 2024, by order of a prosecutor at the Sofia City Prosecution Office and are being conducted by the ACC under the direction and supervision of the Sofia City Prosecution Office. The investigation concerns the formation and operation of an organized crime group linked to the Historical Park tourist attraction, the prosecution office said.
