A roundtable on Bulgaria's energy transformation is to be held in Sofia today, November 26. The event has been organized by the Sofia-based Association for Production, Storage and Trading of Electricity and the Center for the Study of Democracy.
The meeting brings together representatives of institutions, businesses, and the non-governmental sector to discuss the key challenges and opportunities facing the country in the field of energy.
Special focus will be placed on innovative solutions in the sector, including intelligent energy storage systems, hybrid renewable energy plants, corporate power purchase agreement models with integrated batteries, the role of low-cost solar power, and the potential for new wind energy projects to maintain low market prices during the winter months.
The discussion will address questions such as where Bulgaria stands on the path to decarbonization while preserving industrial competitiveness, the effects of implementing the Recovery and Resilience Plan, the role of legal and regulatory reforms in the market integration of renewables, how smart grids, digitization, and storage systems can support the development of the energy system and long-term sustainable transition policies, whether renewable energy sources can reduce electricity costs for households and businesses, and how they can help strengthen industrial competitiveness.
Invited participants include Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov and Energy and Water Regulatory Commission Chair Plamen Mladenovski.
