site.btaRadio and TV Association Director: European Media Freedom Act Provides Framework for Free and Effective Media Regulation in Bulgaria
The European Media Freedom Act functions like a regulation, it has direct effect and is already operating in Bulgaria, but it also provides a broad framework that requires national action, Anna Tanova, Executive Director of the Association of Bulgarian Radio and Television Operators (ABRO), said here on Tuesday. She was speaking at the opening of the conference titled "The European Media Freedom Act – a framework for independence and pluralism in the European Union" and organized by the Council for Electronic Media (CEM.
She noted that "the broad framework of the European Media Freedom Act requires experts from the industry and other stakeholders to be involved in the legislative process to create effective regulation". In her words, ABRO acts as a bridge connecting the industry with CEM.
"One of the key measures introduced by the European Media Freedom Act is the establishment of free economic initiative for media services within the territory of the member state, which is happening for the first time compared to the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, and gives us a guarantee for the freedom to provide media services," Anna Tanova concluded.
