Ukraine's security is an integral part of Europe's security and Bulgaria is ready to play an active role in finding solutions to promote peace and stability as a member of both the European Union and NATO, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said during an informal meeting of EU heads of state and government on Monday, according to the Council of Ministers' press centre.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining momentum for achieving peace by coordinating closely with the US, the EU and Ukraine. He welcomed the United States' consistent efforts to achieve a ceasefire and establish just and lasting peace, emphasizing that this goal would be impossible to achieve without the active participation of the EU and Ukraine.

According to Zhelyazkov, the outcome of the negotiations will have profound and long-term consequences for European and global security. He added that Ukraine needs reliable guarantees for its long-term security.

On Sunday, American and Ukrainian representatives met in Geneva to discuss the peace proposal put forward by the administration of US President Donald Trump. Following negotiations between the delegations, Ukraine and the US jointly announced an "updated and improved" framework for peace.
