The development of bilateral economic relations between Bulgaria and France was discussed by Economy and Industry Minister Petar Dilov and the Ambassador of France to Bulgaria, Marie Dumoulin, the Economy Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.
Dilov emphasized that Bulgaria places priority importance on its cooperation with France. "Alongside political, cultural and historical ties, our two countries also maintain strong trade relations," he stated, noting that bilateral economic ties are dynamic and have recorded positive growth in recent years.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that Bulgaria–France trade reached over EUR 1.5 billion in the January-July 2025 period. France is among Bulgaria’s leading European trade partners, ranking sixth in terms of exports, with a 3.3% share of Bulgaria’s total exports.
French companies also remain among the major investors in Bulgaria. Traditionally attractive sectors for French businesses include agriculture and the food industry, automotive components, finance, electronics and IT, and trade.
Both sides stressed that despite the positive development of bilateral economic relations, there is significant potential for deeper cooperation and joint projects.
Minister Dilov and Ambassador Dumoulin identified energy, defence, transport, and cooperation in innovation as promising sectors for future partnership.
The two also discussed Bulgaria’s accession process to the OECD, with Ambassador Dumoulin reiterating France’s support.
