The European Commission announced on Friday that it has approved funding for 132 new environmental protection projects across the EU under the LIFE programme for environment and climate action. Three of these projects are in Bulgaria, with EU funding amounting to nearly EUR 6.4 million.

One Bulgarian project aims to improve the environment for birds in a border area of the Rhodope Mountains between Bulgaria and Greece, and to take additional measures against forest fires. Another project will finance the construction of a wastewater treatment plant for KCM-Plovdiv. The third project aims to develop new construction training methods that comply with nature conservation requirements.

According to the Commission's statement, the projects approved on Friday aim to improve quality of life and mitigate the consequences of the transition to clean energy. EU funding is provided under the LIFE programme to support projects for a clean, circular and sustainable economy, as well as for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.
