The world:

- World Mental Health Day; 

- National Day of Fiji: Independence Day (1970); 

- National Day of Taiwan;

- European Day Against the Death Penalty (since 2007). 

On this date in Bulgarian history: 

1945: Diplomatic relations with Czechoslovakia re-established after being severed on June 1, 1939. 

1977: National High School for Ancient Languages and Cultures opens in Sofia.

Bulgaria:

- Day of Sofia Bar Association.

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1990: The first issue of the Vakhan paper, a weekly of the Armenians in Bulgaria, starts coming out.

1999: A memorial is unveiled commemorating the victims of communist repressions in the Koutsian labour camp near Pernik.

2000: Belmeken-Sestrimo cascade becomes operational again after being shut down for rehabilitation.

2003: A National Association of Immigrants to Bulgaria is established as the first immigrants' NGO in this country.

2006: Cabinet determines the portion of concession royalties payable for the extraction of natural resources that will be allocated to municipalities.
