Bulgarian President Plevneliev Confers with Jordanian King Abdullah II

Amman, March 13 (BTA) - Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev conferred in Amman on Sunday with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan during a working meeting to the Hashemite Kingdom for an Aqaba Process summit on extremism, migration and security in the region and Europe, the head of State's Press Secretariat said.

At the session, the President and the King concurred that the similarity of Bulgaria's and Jordan's positions on key topical regional and international issues is a prerequisite for closer bilateral cooperation. "The long-term contacts of trust and friendship are a good basis for an invigoration of political, trade and economic cooperation between the two countries," the press release reads.

The two leaders exchanged views on issues on the international agenda, the situation in the Middle East and the Balkans resulting from the changed regional and global security environment. They declared themselves in favour of closer coordination of efforts and a more active exchange of information among the partners in the fight against extremism and radicalization.

During the conversation, an emphasis was laid on the key role of the Balkan countries in containing the migration wave headed towards Europe. The need of a common European approach and a more tangible role of the Middle East countries in coping with migration problems was also discussed. LN/LG
