site.btaInformation Events on Euro's Introduction Held in Silistra, Sopot, Nikolaevo and Balchik

At a series of public information meetings held across Bulgaria, government officials assured citizens and businesses that the introduction of the euro on January 1, 2026, will be smooth, transparent, and free from financial disruption.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov stated in Silistra that joining the eurozone will boost international trust in Bulgaria, providing greater financial stability for households and predictability for businesses.
Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Lozana Vasileva emphasized that the euro adoption will not affect EU programme funding in agriculture. She clarified that major programmes like the CAP Strategic Plan and the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Programme were already planned and implemented in euro, with no changes needed to existing contracts. Beneficiaries will transition to euro-only applications and reporting after January 2026, with fully adapted administrative systems.
In meetings held in Sopot, Nikolaevo, and Balchik, representatives from the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) and the National Revenue Agency (NRA) addressed public concerns, including price increases during the transition (unjustified hikes are prohibited and will be monitored), retail readiness, including starter packs of euro cash from December 2025, refunds and transactions, which must be handled fully in euros after the switch.
Officials reassured citizens that essential goods are not seeing unjustified price increases, and that reporting mechanisms are in place for any suspected violations. A price monitoring website is also being developed.
The campaign is part of a nationwide effort coordinated by the Ministry of Finance, Bulgarian National Bank, the Ministry of Economy and Industry, CPC, NRA, the Financial Supervision Commission, and the National Social Security Institute to ensure a well-managed and informed transition to the euro.
