World-famous composer Pantcho Wladigeroff was a wonderful grandfather, his eldest grandson, Pantcho Wladigeroff Jr, told BTA's Pavlina Dudeva in an interview here on Friday. He visited Stara Zagora for the premiere of the opera Tsar Kaloyan.
"I met my grandfather quite late, by coincidence, when I was 19 years old. But from that moment on (...) we were inseparable until his death in 1978," Wladigeroff Jr pointed out, adding that he is the only one of the four grandchildren who has memories with him, since his sister and brothers are younger.
"Pantho Wladigeroff can be talked about for days. He was a wonderful person, we all know about his genius, but it was very important that he had a great sense of humor," Wladigeroff Jr said, noting that it was humor that helped him grandfather in life, which can also be felt in his works. Wladigeroff Jr., who is a piano professor, also commented on the attempts to compare him with his grandfather. "This is so incommensurable, because he is a colossus of European and world scale. And everyone lives their life differently and has their own story," he said.
The premiere of the opera Tsar Kaloyan is an exciting event, said Wladigeroff Jr, noting that the opera itself is a very difficult and heavy work of Wagnerian scale. The other three grandchildren of Pantcho Wladigeroff also arrived in Stara Zagora for the occasion, which is part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the first opera in Bulgaria outside the capital.
