Sofia Municipality should purchase real estate in the centre of Sofia and turn them into kindergartens, reads a report by Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev regarding Sofia Municipality's 2025 Programme for Acquisition, Management and Disposal of Municipal Property. The programme will be debated at the meeting of the Sofia Municipal Council on June 12.
The report states that the provision of kindergartens is a priority for Sofia Municipality, which is why it is proposed to acquire private property falling within regulated land property allocated under the current detailed development plans for the relevant educational infrastructure.
Terziev pointed out that in connection with a project under the Cultural Heritage Programme, reconstruction has begun with a change in the purpose of a club-restaurant into a children's club in an administrative building. In order to implement the project in the future, it is necessary to take action to purchase the land, which currently is private property.
In the same report, the Mayor proposes to acquire private property falling within the territory of the Geo Milev Park and the Ezeroto Park, as well as within the area of the Boyanska Church Reserve. The acquisition of the property through purchase will be implemented in accordance with the available financial resources and on the basis of specific reports to the Sofia Municipal Council by the mayors of the boroughs on whose territory they are located.
In May, Terziev stressed that about 6,000 children will be left without a place in kindergartens in Sofia after the second and third rankings in 2025. He noted that 26 kindergartens and 11 schools are being built and completed, adding that Sofia Municipality's Road to Zero Programme aims to present a clear plan by 2027 on how to solve the problem of the shortage of nurseries and kindergartens.
