Low water levels on the Danube are disrupting shipping in the Bulgarian section of the river, with six shallow spots forming, Bozhidar Yankov, Secretary General of the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River in Ruse, said on Tuesday.

He pointed out that critical areas include Somovit, Belene, Batin, Svishtov, and Vardim, leading to restrictions on vessel draft. The Danube level near Ruse is currently 9 centimetres below the reference zero mark and is expected to fall by another 10 centimetres by Thursday.
