Plovdiv residents protested here on Thursday in front of the municipal building, demanding improvements to public transport. The rally was organized by the Plovdiv – Grad Za Horata [Plovdiv – a city for the people] association. Pavel Nachev, a member of the association's board of directors, told BTA that the protesters' main demands were for regular public transport running until 11 p.m., the introduction of electronic tickets, and regular bus routes.

According to Nachev, the long-term solution to the problem is the acquisition of municipal buses and the creation of a fully functioning municipal transport company. He added: " This is the first and only protest so far about public transport in Plovdiv. We want the municipality to take responsibility and issue a public tender for the purchase of municipal buses. From there, it should start taking over the first lines and, over time, within four years, take over all lines from the private transport company."

Among the protesters' demands are the installation of electronic boards showing the actual arrival times of buses, updating routes to meet the needs of citizens, and ensuring accessibility in all vehicles for people with disabilities and parents with strollers.

The organizers said that if the citizens' demands are not met, further protests will take place.
