All 60 brown bears in Rila National Park are hibernating, the park's management said at BTA's inquiry. The protected territory guarantees the protection of these large mammals in their natural environment.

Last year, poaching on the park's territory was brought to a minimum, the management also said.

Rila National Park is the home of 2,934 invertebrates and 172 vertebrates, such as the Balkan goat, fallow deer, European ground squirrel, hazel dormouse, golden eagle, Eurasian three-toed woodpecker, and boreal owl.
