The Mayski Ritmi dance group in Augsburg, Germany, will take part in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling folklore festival. The festival will be held in BMW Park in Munich, Germany, from May 15 to 17.

For the 2026 edition, the group has created an original dance Megdanski Zadyavki [village-square flirting], featuring specially composed music, the group’s leader Maya Peneva said.

The choreography, also created by Peneva, presents a playful emotional story between a young man and a young woman, combining characteristic rhythms and movements from the Northern, Thracian, Pirin and Shopluk folklore regions to showcase the richness and diversity of Bulgarian folk dance.

About 28 dancers are expected to take part in the performance. According to Peneva, the participants are highly motivated and united by their love of Bulgarian folklore.

The Mayski Ritmi dance group was founded in January 2026 with the aim of bringing together Bulgarians living in Germany through their shared interest in folk traditions. Initially expected to include around 10 to 12 participants, the group has grown to more than 30 dancers.

According to Peneva, participation in Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance is not just a performance but a cause aimed at showing that Bulgarian folklore transcends borders.

The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival is organized by and for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. More than 100 dance ensembles and over 4,000 guests are expected at the 11th edition in Munich in May. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner of the event and will present all participants.
