Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov Saturday stressed the need for talent in the energy sector, citing upcoming large-scale projects. “We need a lot of people to join our teams because we have really big things coming up,” he said at the Bulgaria Across Five Oceans career forum in Sofia.
He said that they aim to sign contracts for the construction of Units 7 and 8 at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant as early as next year so the construction can begin. “This project will allow us to double nuclear electricity production,” Stankov said.
The Minister added that 10,000 people will be employed on-site at peak construction. “Some of them are recent university graduates, and others we hope to bring back from Europe,” the Minister said. He spoke of building a new generation of educated, experienced young professionals who can help shape a stronger Bulgarian energy sector.
Stankov also noted that large-scale pumped storage hydro power plants are planned to be built, adding that hydropower accounts for approximately 20% of Bulgaria’s energy mix.
