Twenty-four Bulgarian folklore performances were held at the Palais des Sports in Lyon, France, on Sunday, June 8, as part of the 10th edition of the festival titled “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance” (Une ronde autour du monde).
The event began with the “Dobrudzha Dance”, performed by dancers from formations with the Association of Bulgarian Folklore Ensembles Abroad. The programme continued with instrumental pieces by bagpiper Georgi Dushev from Spain, followed by the dance “Narechitsa”, presented by the dancers of the “Pagane” Dance Club in London, UK.
One after another, groups performed before the audience: Ensemble “Kitka” from Vienna, Austria; “Trakia” Folk Dance Group from Mainz, Germany; the dance troupe of the Bulgarian Heart Association in Malaga, Spain; “Gaitani” Folklore Formation from Bordeaux, France; “Kanatitsa” Folklore Group from Vevey, Switzerland; “7/8-mi” Dance Group from Bordeaux, France; “Pendari” Folklore Group from Vienna, Austria; and “Bulgarika” Folklore Group from Warsaw, Poland.
The dance composition “Thracian Merriment” was performed by the Bremen Musicians Folklore Group from Bremen, Germany, followed by “Galeni Momi i Momtsi” and “Kitka” dance groups from Germany, who presented a choreographic etude inspired by the song “Zavilo se vito oro”.
The “Lisichka” Folklore Dance Ensemble and “Bulgarska Roza” Choir from Munich, Germany, showcased “Village Passions” and “Grandma’s Fuss,” respectively, while singers from the “Beli Rozi” Choir in Pescara, Italy, delivered a cappella performances of the songs “Shetala Moma” and “Prochula sei Rada”.
The festive programme continued with dance performances by “PleteNitsa” Dance Formation from Nice, France; Ensemble “Lev” and the “AzBuki” Bulgarian School from Rome and Colleferro, Italy; “Na Horoto” Folklore Group from Graz, Austria; “Bulgarska Roza” Folklore Group from Koblenz, Germany; “Yan Bibiyan” Dance Group from Münster, Germany; and “HOROvodtsi s Temenuzhka” Folklore Ensemble from Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The audience also witnessed a large-scale dance production created on the initiative of the “Bulgarska Roza” Dance Ensemble from Nice and Cannes, France. The performance featured dancers from the “Bulgaria” Folklore Formation in Worcester, Central England; “Khorovodna Kitka” Dance Group from Paphos, Cyprus; “Uifolk” Folklore Group from Milan, Italy; and “Gaitani” from Bordeaux, France.
