Impuls dance group from Frankfurt am Main will present a Shoppe dance at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, which will take place in Munich from May 15 to 17.

"Impuls Frankfurt dance group will present the dance 'Shopski Ludorii' in Munich. The Shoppe dance is known as one of the liveliest, most energetic and playful Bulgarian folk dances and reflects well the character of our dance group, witty, vibrant and always ready for celebration," Petya Guintchev, chairperson of the Impuls German-Bulgarian Cultural Association, to which the dance group belongs, told BTA.

She said the choreography was created by Antoaneta Asenova-Danova from the National School of Dance Arts, while the music is authentic folk music by an unknown author.

"Bulgarian folklore is the magic that connects generations. With perseverance, love for folklore and dedication to the stage, we will try to create an unforgettable memory for all of us," Guintchev said.

She noted that the dancers are currently rehearsing three times a week for three hours in preparation for the festival in Munich.

Jens Klusche, who studied choreography in Bulgaria and is passionate about Bulgarian folklore, leads the Impuls dance group.

The dance group was founded in 2016 and currently includes both Bulgarians and Germans aged between 11 and 60, Guintchev said.

She added that Impuls German-Bulgarian Cultural Association is a non-profit association bringing together people of Bulgarian and international background who appreciate and identify with the Bulgarian language and literature, Bulgarian customs and holidays, Bulgarian art and theatre, Bulgarian folklore and folk dances. One of its goals is to support the integration of newly arrived Bulgarians in Germany, Guintchev explained.

The travelling festival Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance is organized by and for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. More than 100 dance ensembles and over 4,000 guests are expected at the 11th edition in Munich in May. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner of the event and will present all participants.
