site.btaBulgaria Reaffirms Support for Taraclia District’s Status in Talks with Moldovan Ambassador
Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Radi Naydenov met with Emil Jacota, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova, at Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry on March 12, the Ministry said in a press release on Friday.
The two discussed the excellent bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Moldova, based on strong historical and cultural ties, as well as on shared European values and strategic priorities. Naydenov stressed that the large Bulgarian community in Moldova serves as a natural bridge and a constructive element in bilateral relations, further encouraging cooperation between the two countries.
In this context, Naydenov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s clear, consistent and firm position regarding the Taraclia District, stressing that Bulgaria actively supports Moldovan citizens of Bulgarian origin. Preserving Taraclia District as a separate administrative-territorial unit remains a priority objective for Sofia, he said.
It was emphasized that during Moldova’s ongoing administrative-territorial reform, the authorities should maintain active and transparent dialogue with local authorities and the public, particularly with the Bulgarian community in Moldova, in line with Moldovan legislation. Gratitude was also expressed for the Moldovan leadership’s repeatedly stated readiness to preserve not only the territorial boundaries of Taraclia District but also its functional autonomy.
Ambassador Jacota, for his part, welcomed Sofia’s constructive position and described the Bulgarian community as an important factor in strengthening bilateral relations. He said that the Moldovan authorities remain committed to guaranteeing the rights of citizens of Bulgarian origin in accordance with national legislation and will continue active and constructive dialogue with the Bulgarian government on issues of mutual interest.
Naydenov also assured Jacota that Bulgaria consistently supports Moldova on its path toward European Union accession and reaffirmed the country’s readiness to share its experience across all areas of the European integration process.
Both sides agreed on the importance of continuing cooperation in a spirit of mutual understanding.
