Three municipalities in the southern part of Ukraine’s Odesa Region were left without electricity after a Russian drone attack overnight, Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, said on Telegram.
The attack caused damage to the energy system, sparked a fire, and hit an administrative building, Kiper added.
“Settlements in three municipalities of the region have been partially cut off from electricity as a result of the strikes. Strategic infrastructure facilities have been switched to backup power supplied by generators,” he said.
“On the night of February 9–10, the Russians once again attacked energy infrastructure in the Izmail District. Izmail, Kiliia, and Reni came under attack. Unfortunately, several municipalities were left without electricity. DTEK energy workers are working to temporarily reconnect the settlements to the power grid,” the operational headquarters of the Izmail District State Administration said in a post on Facebook.
Bulgarians in Odesa Region number more than 150,000 and are the third largest population group in Ukraine, according to the latest official census. Between 50,000 and 60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
