Dobrich became the first city where the Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) coalition started campaigning for the April 19 parliamentary elections on Friday. Ivaylo Mirchev, co-chair of Yes, Bulgaria, called for citizens’ democratic vote to remove GERB leader Boyko Borisov and MRF - New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski from government, highlighting the significance of last year’s mass protests, his party said in a press release.

"People have made it clear that this model must end. The only way to stop it is through elections and forming a parliamentary majority so that Borisov and Peevski no longer run this country," Mirchev said, urging people to report any vote-buying attempts to the police.

He stressed that achieving change requires a constitutional majority of 160 MPs to elect a new Supreme Judicial Council and appoint a new chief prosecutor, criticizing the current acting top prosecutor for unlawfully holding the office.

Local MP Svilen Trifonov, who is the top-of-the-list CC-DB candidate in Dobrich, highlighted regional priorities: water shortages, poor road infrastructure, and underdeveloped education and culture. “Dobrich faces an unprecedented water crisis despite rainfall. Recently, a school in Senokos had to close due to lack of water; its corridors now serve as storage for barrels of water,” Trifonov said.

Trifonov introduced part of the local candidate list, emphasizing that they are skilled, committed citizens. Among them are cultural anthropologist and educator Nadezhda Ivanova; Dejan Dukov, an activist from Kavarna; farmer Ivan Kostadinov from General Toshevo; and economist Gancho Popov. Each pledged to fight corruption and improve life for residents of Dobruja, emphasizing long-term commitment beyond the elections.
