National Assembly Chairman Nikola Minchev Wednesday showed on his Facebook profile the positive result of his PCR and rapid antigen tests done on January 10. His post was prompted by the Vazrazhdane parliamentary group's demand that he showed his COVID-19 test done after Monday's Consultative Council on National Security (CCNS) with the President and based on which Minchev, President Rumen Radev, and Prime Minister Kiril Petkov were quarantined.

Minchev's Facebook post reads: "Due to the huge amount of people I meet with every day, I test myself more often. I made such a test on Sunday as well and it came out negative. After the CCNS meeting I once again did a test, which unfortunately came out positive and I informed my contacts about it."

In his words, some people and most of all the opposition are clearly trying to draw dividends from the situation. ''If it had happened after a plenary sitting in the National Assembly, it would probably have been the same," he comments on Facebook. Minchev also writes that he and his family are well, and thanks for the interest shown.

The ministers discussed a National Operational Plan for coping with COVID-19. The key criterion for imposing restrictions will be the intensive care bed occupancy rate. The plan envisages four stages with specific measures which will be announced in advance to the public and businesses. Tighter restrictions will be imposed when the number of vacant intensive care beds becomes critically low.

Measures will be implemented at regional, not national level, depending on the spread of the virus and the standard practices for handling COVID patients. The mathematical model underlying the plan will allow the authorities to impose restrictions at five days' notice. The public will be able to keep track of the percentage of vacant intensive care beds on a daily basis.

The new plan is intended to enable the authorities to respond in the quickest and most adequate way to the challenges posed by the pandemic. VE/MT/MY,DS/RY/DD
