Following the organizational assembly of the forces participating in the Mine Countermeasures Black Sea (MCM Black Sea) Task Group and joint training exercises conducted in different areas, the crews carried out preparations for going to sea, the Defence Ministry press centre said on Friday. In open waters, the crews carried out reconnaissance and surveillance tasks in view of the threat of sea mines, mine action in designated areas, and search and rescue drills.
Group members conducted drills to reflect attacks, integrate forces and participate in joint exercises to share experiences and improve interoperability, the Ministry added.
On Wednesday, the fifth activation of the MCM Black Sea Task Group began with an official ceremony at the port of Burgas. The joint operation involves warships from Bulgaria, Romania and Turkiye to ensure the safety of maritime traffic and counter the threat of sea mines.
The MCM Black Sea Task Group was established in January 2024, following the signing of a memorandum between Bulgaria, Romania and Turkiye, with the main goal of ensuring that the Black Sea is free of mines and safe.
