On the second day of his working visit to Chisinau, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev met with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi, and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, his ministry said.

In the framework of the talks with Minister Popsoi, the sides discussed the prospects for advancing bilateral dialogue and ways for expanding cooperation between Bulgaria and Moldova in all areas of mutual interest. Moldova's European future and the excellent level of political dialogue between the two countries were the focus of the meeting.

"Bulgaria is among the strongest and most active supporters of Moldova's European integration," Minister Georgiev said. "Stable, secure, politically independent and prosperous states in our immediate neighbourhood are of strategic importance for national and regional security," he stressed.

Discussing concrete forms of Bulgarian support for Moldova's European integration was in the focus of the talks between Minister Georgiev and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov. The establishment of close institutional cooperation for the exchange of Bulgarian experience, good practices and lessons learned from Bulgaria's pre-accession process to the European Union was discussed. The interaction between local authorities was also encouraged by both sides.

Minister Georgiev commended the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to implement the European Commission's recommendations and underlined the Moldovan commitment to a consistent reformist agenda focused on strengthening the rule of law, fighting corruption and building strong and sustainable institutions.
