Bulgaria’s Ivan Ivanov and Alexander Vasilev both advanced to the second round of the boys’ singles competition at the US Open Junior Tennis Championships.

Ivanov, who made history at Wimbledon 2025 by becoming only the second Bulgarian to win a junior Grand Slam title after Grigor Dimitrov, entered the New York event as the tournament’s top seed. In his opening match, he defeated American Michael Antonius 7-5, 6-1 in a contest lasting 88 minutes. In the second round, the Bulgarian will face the winner of the match between Maxwell Exsted (USA) and Karim Bennani (Morocco).

Fifth seed Alexander Vasilev also progressed after beating Tanishk Konduri (USA) 6-3, 7-6 (6) in one hour and 34 minutes. The Wimbledon semi-finalist will play American Dominick Mosejczuk in the next round.

In the girls’ singles competition, both Bulgarian representatives exited in the opening round. Elizara Yaneva fell 4-6, 2-6 to Anita Tu (USA), while Yoana Konstantinova was edged out in a hard-fought three-set battle against Julie Pastikova (Czechia), 5-7, 6-4, 4-6.
