Information meetings, part of the National Information Campaign for the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria, were held in Shabla, Sungurlare, Tutrakan, and Dryanovo on Thursday. Experts talked about BGN/EUR conversion, consumer rights, pricing, reporting and sanctioning traders in violation, among other topics.
The campaign aims to inform citizens about the main stages and deadlines of the euro introduction process in a clear, detailed and reliable manner.
In Dryanovo (North Central Bulgaria), experts of the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) and the National Revenue Agency explained consumers rights and changes in the introduction of the euro as of January 1, 2026. Zdravka Dimitrova, chief inspector at the CPC office in Gabrovo, assured those in attendance that the transition from the lev to the euro will happen smoothly and based on a very serious plan.
In Sungurlare (Southeastern Bulgaria), citizens asked mainly practical questions, such as price labels and payments in shops. Danaila Kostova, chief inspector at the CPC, commented that despite the many explanations by institutions, social media are still a source of too much information that is fake and contradictory.
In Tutrakan (on the Danube), the representatives of institutions said that people can exchange lev for euro free of charge in all banks and postal offices from January to June 2026.
An information meeting was also scheduled in Rudozem, but it did not take place due to lack of organization.
