Experts from the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) and the National Revenue Agency (NRA) held a euro information meeting with residents of Madan (Southern Bulgaria) on Thursday. The event was part of the National Information Campaign for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria.
The meeting was attended by Chief Inspector at the CPC in Smolyan Mitko Petagov, Tanyo Karamanolov, NRA Office Director in Smolyan. They informed the residents of the main stages and deadlines in the process of adopting the euro as the national currency from January 1, 2026.
During the meeting, basic principles and technical details of the lev-euro conversion were explained. The representatives of the institutions emphasized that prices in retail outlets must be indicated both in lev and euro, using the official fixed exchange rate. It was pointed out that all available bank accounts and electronic funds will be automatically converted into euro at the fixed rate, without the need for any action on the part of consumers.
Karamanolov pointed out that the NRA systems are technically ready for the introduction of the euro and from January 1, 2026, the services will be available without interruption.
