At 0.9%, Bulgaria’s job vacancy rate was the third lowest in the EU in the second quarter of 2025, although it rose by 0.1 percentage points (pp) compared with the same quarter of the previous year, one of only five increases registered in member states, the statistical office of the EU (Eurostat) reported on Monday.

The lowest job vacancy rates in the second quarter of 2025 were reported in Romania (0.6%), Spain and Poland (both 0.8%), followed by Bulgaria (0.9%). The highest levels were observed in the Netherlands (4.2%) and Belgium (3.9%), followed by Austria (3.4%), Cyprus (3.3%), and Malta (3.2%).

Compared with the second quarter of 2024, increases were observed in Cyprus (+0.3 pp), Lithuania and Malta (both + 0.2 pp), followed by Bulgaria and Estonia (+0.1 pp in both of them). Except for Czechia, impacted by a methodological break in the first quarter of 2025, the largest decreases were recorded in Greece (-0.9 pp), Finland (-0.7 pp), followed by Germany and Austria (both -0.6 pp).

Across the EU, the job vacancy rate was 2.1% in the second quarter of 2025, dropping from 2.2% in the first quarter of 2025 and down from 2.4% in the second quarter of 2024. In the euro area, it was 2.2% in the second quarter of 2025, a decrease from 2.4% in the first quarter of 2025 and from 2.6% in the second quarter of 2024.
