The average price of agricultural products in the European Union rose by 5.6% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, confirming an upward trend following a period of decline, show data from the European statistical agency Eurostat, published on its website on Tuesday.

The average costs of goods and services used in agriculture, excluding investments – such as energy, fertilizers, or animal feed – increased slightly by 0.4% between the second quarter of 2024 and the same period in 2025.

When comparing production prices in Q2 2025 with Q2 2024, significant increases were recorded for key agricultural products such as eggs (up 27.8%), fruit (up 21.1%), and milk (up 13.3%). In contrast, prices for olive oil (-39.9%) and potatoes (-29.1%) saw sharp declines.

Among the non-investment-related input costs, the highest increases were observed in fertilizers and soil improvers (up 5.6%) and veterinary expenses (up 3.3%). The biggest drop was in energy and lubricants (-5.8%), with the price of motor fuel alone down by 10.8%.

Prices Rise in Most EU Countries

Agricultural product prices in Q2 2025 were higher in almost all EU member states compared to the same quarter of 2024, with the only exception being Greece. The highest growth rates were recorded in Latvia (up 21.8%), Ireland (up 21.1%), and Luxembourg (up 18.4%). In Bulgaria, prices rose by 16.07%. Greece, on the other hand, registered a slight decrease of 0.1%.

Regarding non-investment-related input costs, 17 EU countries reported an increase in Q2 2025 compared to Q2 2024. The highest increases were observed in the Netherlands (up 6.1%), Hungary (up 5.6%), and Austria (up 2.9%).

Among the countries with declining input costs, the most significant drops were seen in Cyprus and Bulgaria (both -3.4%) and Romania (-3.1%).
