Labour and Social Policy Minister Borislav Gutsanov said on Tuesday, at the Council of Ministers, that despite the lack of agreement, he "believes and hopes" that the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation will vote to adopt the draft decree of the Council of Ministers to set the poverty line at BGN 764 for 2026.
At the start of the meeting of the Council, made up of government, unions, and business representatives, Gutsanov said that the proposal is BGN 126 or EUR 64 more than last year’s, which is an increase of 19.7%. The poverty line is updated annually, he added.
The meeting was opened by Deputy Prime Minister and Chair of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation Tomislav Donchev. The members of the Commission on Income and Living Standards of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation have not reached unanimity, Donchev said.
The poverty line is a monetary indicator used in shaping state policies on income and living standards and in determining social protection measures. Its amount is set annually.
