The Registry Agency has recorded 66,803 property transactions in the first six months of 2025, a 30% increase compared to the same period last year, Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev says in a post on his Facebook page.
“In the past two months, despite the summer season, the volume of transactions has not declined, with over 21,000 deeds registered in June and July alone,” the minister noted. He added that the increase is observed solely in Sofia, while transaction volumes in other major cities remain at typical levels.
Georgiev also pointed out that a record number of registered property deals is expected by the end of 2025, the highest in the past 20 years since the Registry Agency was established. He added that on Tuesday he reviewed the organization of work processes, aimed at ensuring efficient operations by optimizing working hours and reallocating tasks to less burdened registry offices across the country.
By the end of this week, the Registry Agency will provide real-time access to its Property Register information system for the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Agency, the minister noted. He stressed that due to an increase in property rights registrations based on forged documents, full access to all reports, including property ownership deeds, is being granted to the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Agency. “This is another step in our ongoing efforts to prevent property fraud,” Georgiev said.
During a working meeting on combating property fraud held in July, the Justice Minister said that the ban on issuing uncertified copies of notarial deeds from the Property Register to individuals without legal interest will act as a major deterrent to attempted property scams.
