Bulgaria must implement environmentally friendly solutions that lead to economic development and benefit society, said Deputy Environment Minister Atanas Kostadinov at the opening of the discussion on “The Euro, the Environment, and Sustainable Tourism: New Horizons in a Common Currency" in Sofia on Tuesday.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Water and attended by mayors and representatives of municipalities. Its aim was to discuss the effects of the introduction of the euro on the development of sustainable tourism and, at the same time, the protection of natural resources.
Kostadinov stated that the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria will enable better development of policies in ecology and tourism, as well as the country's competitiveness. He emphasized that tourism has significant added value for the economy. He also pointed out that tourism development is achieved through the implementation of green policies set out in the new European directives and regulations.
Sustainable development is not a mystery for a modern state, it is the unity of economic, social, and environmental discourses, Kostadinov said.
