US-based Westinghouse Electric Company said Thursday it has signed its first contract with the Bulgarian supplier MTG Dolphin for the construction of two new AP1000 nuclear reactors at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant.
Under the contract, MTG Dolphin will develop a Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) program, including the implementation of nuclear safety culture, preparation of engineering documentation for a mock-up construction, and the possible construction of an AP1000 CA module mock-up.
The cooperation will also allow MTG Dolphin to participate in other Westinghouse projects across Europe and globally, the US company said.
MTG Dolphin’s Executive Director Svetlin Stoyanov sees participation in the AP1000 project as a demonstration of the capabilities and potential of Bulgaria’s industrial sector.
Westinghouse has committed to building a network of highly qualified Bulgarian suppliers to support the new nuclear power units at the Kozloduy site, as well as other AP1000 projects in Europe and around the world, added Dan Lipman, President of Energy Systems unit at Westinghouse.
The company has already signed memoranda of understanding with 30 Bulgarian suppliers to support the AP1000 project in Kozloduy.
MTG Dolphin is registered in Varna and operates in shipbuilding, metal construction, engineering, and transport services, among other fields, according to the national commercial register.
