Economy and Industry Minister Peter Dilov held an annual meeting of Bulgaria’s Economic Counselors serving in the Trade and Economic Affairs Offices (STIV) of the country’s diplomatic missions abroad, the Ministry said Wednesday.
Amid global economic uncertainty, trade instability, and geopolitical tensions, Dilov stressed the growing need for proactive and adaptive economic diplomacy. He called on STIV offices to identify new market opportunities, build strong partnerships, and support Bulgarian companies in expanding into new and existing markets.
The Minister highlighted Bulgaria’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development as a strategic priority, noting it would bring greater predictability and adherence to top international business standards.
He emphasized STIV’s crucial role in positioning Bulgaria as a reliable and recognizable investment and trade partner globally.
Dilov noted a 47% year-on-year increase in foreign direct investment for the first five months of 2025, reaching EUR 1.393 billion, according to preliminary data from the Bulgarian National Bank, but said efforts must intensify to attract new investment.
He pointed to high-tech manufacturing, digitalization, fintech, robotics, biotech, and sustainable production as key sectors for Bulgaria’s competitiveness.
Dilov also underscored STIV’s role in promoting Bulgaria as a year-round tourist destination.
The meeting was held in a hybrid format, with some trade representatives attending in person in Sofia and others joining online.
