The government approved a draft Memorandum of Understanding on capital markets development between the Ministry of Finance of Bulgaria and the Ministries of Finance of Croatia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, the Slovak Republic, the Republic of North Macedonia and the Ministry of National Economy of Hungary, the press service of the Council of Ministers said here on Wednesday.

The document foresees that the participating ministries will cooperate to develop deeper and more efficient capital markets in the region, including by harmonising the regulatory environment. This will reduce obstacles to cross-border capital flows.

More consolidated capital markets will lead to higher investment flows and liquidity. Integration will facilitate access to finance for businesses and investors, thereby boosting economic growth and macroeconomic and financial stability.

The memorandum is scheduled to be signed at an official ceremony in Zagreb, Croatia, on August 25, 2025.

At the end of May, the European Commission initiated a written consultation on the integration of capital markets in the European Union, targeting both business representatives and investors, the Financial Supervisory Commission said at the time on its website.
