site.btaMinimum Wage to Reach BGN 1,210 in 2026, No Change Expected to Mechanism Determining Its Amount

Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) President Plamen Dimitrov told BTA that calculations based on current legislation show that if the current law is complied with, the minimum wage will be between BGN 1,210 and BGN 1,212. This is an increase of 12.3%.
The minimum wage will be determined by a decree of the Council of Ministers in accordance with the provisions of the Labour Code, and no change in the current automatic mechanism is expected, Dimitrov added. “September 1 is approaching, and I do not see any possibility for parliamentary time for changes to the Labour Code,” he added.
The current text of the Labour Code works for Bulgarian workers, but not for the wage negotiation process, noted the CITUB president. “We have made considerable efforts to find compromise mechanisms for the minimum wage through the directive on adequate minimum wages,” Dimitrov explained. “Unfortunately, this minimum package, which we have been trying to negotiate with employers over the past two months, has failed,” he said.
