Bulgaria's key interest rate falls to 1.91% from July 1, 2025, the Bulgarian National Bank said on Monday. It decreases by 0.16 percentage points compared to the transition month, when it stood at 2.07%. Thus, the simple annual interest rate will be below the 2% mark for the first time in nearly two and a half years. The last time the key interest rate was below 2% was in February 2023 when it stood at 1.82%.
The key interest rate in Bulgaria is mainly applied in the calculation of the annual interest rate on liabilities. The statutory default interest rate is calculated twice a year, on January 1 and July 1, based on the base rate on that date plus 10 percentage points. This means that the new level of statutory default interest in Bulgaria, which will apply until the end of the year, amounts to 11.91%.
