The security situation in Serbia is stable and under control, Serbia's Interior Ministry announced on Friday, as quoted by RTS. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and General Police Director Dragan Vasiljevic held a meeting with Prime Minister Duro Macut, during which they discussed the current security situation in the country.

The meeting analysed the results achieved by the police, key challenges to security, public order, and peace, as well as operational plans to combat organized crime. Emphasis was placed on the importance of continuous coordination among all security services to maintain stability and protect citizens.

Friday's meeting took place in the context of the recent high-profile Senjak case - one of the biggest corruption and criminal scandals in Serbia of May 2026, which led to the arrest and dismissal of Veselin Milic, the long-serving Belgrade police chief, exposing deep ties between senior police officials and organized crime.

Milic organized and facilitated a meeting between two feuding figures from the underworld - Aleksandar Nesovic-Baja, linked to the once-notorious New Belgrade Clan of Dejan Stojanovic-Keka, and a man with a criminal record nicknamed Boske. The rendezvous took place at a restaurant in the Belgrade neighbourhood of Senjak with the aim of "resolving differences" and reconciling. Milic personally invited Nesovic to the restaurant and suggested that Nesovic come without his personal security detail. During a heated dispute at the restaurant, Boske drew a firearm and shot Nesovic dead on the spot in front of the police chief. Instead of arresting the shooter, Milic and his security helped the perpetrator remove the victim's body from the restaurant and cover up the evidence. Nesovic's body was found in a barrel, buried in the municipality of Indjija, about 60 km from Belgrade.
