The National Revenue Agency (NRA), the Commission for Protection of Competition, and the Consumer Protection Commission are joining forces against unfair traders who will use the introduction of the euro and the period before January 1, 2026 to unreasonably increase the prices of the goods and services they offer. To this end, the three institutions will sign a cooperation agreement on June 6 that will regulate and synchronize their actions and the exchange of information between them, the NRA said in a press release Thursday. The aim is to ensure the protection of consumers, producers and traders, as well as a competitive market environment.

At Friday's meeting, the representatives of the three institutions will announce to journalists some of the measures that will be taken by them in implementation of the law on the introduction of the euro to counteract the unjustified rise in prices before and after the introduction of the single European currency. The trilateral coordination will contribute to more effective control of commercial practices, with a focus on prevention and timely response to detected violations, the press release reads.

The news comes after on Wednesday, the European Commission and the European Central Bank presented positive convergence reports on Bulgaria's readiness to join the eurozone. The country is expected to introduce the euro on January 1, 2026.
