By its decision, the Council of Ministers took action to increase Bulgaria’s quota in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) - from 896,300,000 to 1,344,500,000 special drawing rights.

The increase is in implementation of the Decision 79-1 of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund of December 15, 2023 on the completion of the Sixteenth IMF General Review of Quotas. It provides for a 50% increase in all members' quotas to maintain the Fund's lending capacity without changing its shareholder structure.

Agreeing to the increase in Bulgaria's quota will send a positive signal to the international community and the European Union of the country's willingness to share its responsibilities as a shareholder in the international financial institution.

The decision of the Council of Ministers is also in line with Article 76(2) of the State Budget Act of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2025.
