Education Minister Krassimir Valchev and Boyko Takov, Executive Director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency, signed two agreements Thursday with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (part of the World Bank Group), aimed at supporting education and business development in Northern Bulgaria. The documents were co-signed by Antonella Bassani, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia.

Attending was also Deputy Prime Minister and Innovation and Growth Minister Tomislav Donchev.

The first agreement focuses on improving the management skills and competitiveness of around 300 medium and small enterprises in Northern Bulgaria. This pilot initiative will assess the needs of small businesses and identify challenges and opportunities for growth.

Deputy Prime Minister Donchev emphasized that findings from the project will help shape future policies for SMEs, particularly in the context of overcoming Bulgaria's current "middle-income trap". One proposed follow-up measure is the establishment of regional advisory centers.

The second agreement aims to assess current data sources in the education system and recommend more effective ways to collect, use, and protect educational data. The initiative will focus on integrating advanced data systems and providing technical support and training to educational staff.
