site.btaYellow Code Alert Issued for Strong Winds in 16 Regions of Bulgaria
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a yellow code warning for strong winds on Sunday in 16 regions of the country. Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 90 km/h, the institute said on its website.
The warning applies to the regions of Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kardzhali, Lovech, Montana, Sofia City, Sofia Region, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen and Yambol.
In the regions of Vidin and Montana in Northwestern Bulgaria, forecasters also expect a snow cover of up to 10 cm and icy road conditions.
According to NIMH meteorologists, daytime temperatures will vary widely, ranging from 2C in the far northwestern areas to 17-18C in eastern Bulgaria, while temperatures in Sofia are expected to be around 14°C. In the mountains, strong to galeforce southwesterly winds are forecast. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1,200 metres will be around 10C, and about 2C at 2,000 metres.
