The national air carriers of Bulgaria (Bulgaria Air) and Latvia (airBaltic) have launched a codeshare partnership as of May 8, 2024, Bulgaria Air said in a press release on Wednesday. The codeshare agreement enables the two carriers to provide greater flexibility to their passengers on flights between Latvia and Bulgaria and beyond.

Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, noted that this partnership benefits local Baltic passengers by providing them with access to Bulgaria Air's flexible network, while local passengers in Bulgaria can now enjoy easier access to airBaltic destinations in Europe. "We look forward to a successful and long-lasting cooperation together," Gauss noted.

Hristo Todorov, Chairperson of the Board of Bulgaria Air, pointed out that thanks to the codeshare cooperation with airBaltic, Bulgaria Air passengers have new opportunities to travel all over Europe with direct flights from Riga to key Scandinavian destinations such as Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen and Helsinki. "These routes further reinforce our commitment to providing exceptional service and connectivity to Bulgarian passengers as a national carrier," he underscored.

As part of the cooperation, airBaltic will add its own code (BT) on the Sofia-Varna route. At the same time, Bulgaria Air will add its own code (FB) on the Sofia-Riga route, as well as on the next flights operated by airBaltic from Riga to Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen and Helsinki.

The first codeshare flight was operated on May 14, 2024.

Latvian airline airBaltic operates more than 130 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, as well as seasonal ones from Gran Canaria, offering connections to a wide range of destinations across the airline's network in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the Caucasus region. The full airBaltic flight schedule and tickets are available on airBaltic’s website.
