Caretaker Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov attended the ceremony of awarding the Secretary of State in the Polish Sports Ministry, Andrzej Gut-Mostowy, with the title of doctor honoris causa of the International Business School (IBS), the Ministry said on Tuesday.

IBS President Lena Gaydarska, IBS Rector Georgi Apostolov, Deputy Tourism Minister Irena Georgieva and Bulgaria’s Tourism Attache to Poland Nikolay Kostov attended the event.

Dimitrov called Gut-Mostowy ”a friend of Bulgarian tourism” and thanked him for the fruitful cooperation and contribution to the development of the bilateral relations between the countries.

Dimitrov highlighted the success of the joint bilateral initiatives, which was achieved thanks to the personal efforts of Polish State Secretary Gut-Mostowy, as well as the efforts of experts from both countries. The Tourism Minister also highlighted the role of Kostov, who together with the guest Gut-Mostowy ranked among the hundred most influential figures in Polish tourism for the past year.

Over the past 10 years, the most Polish citizens have visited Bulgaria in 2018 - just over 420,000. In 2022, over 380,000 Polish citizens came to Bulgaria for tourism, while the airports in Varna and Burgas reported 501,000 arrivals from Poland.

The two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of tourism in 2021.
