Speaking on bTV on Saturday, caretaker Regional Development and Public Works Minister Nikolay Naydenov said that the programme for energy efficiency renovation of multi-family residential buildings was among the successful programmes under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

“EUR 135 million will be paid out by the end of March. The programme will conclude at the end of June, and another 585 buildings will be approved,” he said.

Naydenov also provided details about the residential buildings currently included in the programme’s reserve list.

By the end of the year, there is another EUR 246 million in reserve, covering 177 additional backup projects through the end of this year. By the end of 2029, there are funds for 286 more, the Minister said.

The new development is that a strategy for the energy efficiency of the country’s buildings through 2050 has been adopted, with a detailed programme in place until about 2030, covering a total residential area of 56 square kilometers, he said.

Regarding the funding for implementing the strategy, he said that it will be provided regularly through the National Decarbonization Fund, which will also manage the funds.

He described as a “revolutionary step” the inclusion of single-family buildings in the renovation programme, which will require a 30% contribution from participants and is expected to begin after the current initiative ends in late June.
