Economy Minister Peter Dilov met with Egyptian Ambassador to Bulgaria Nader Saad, the Ministry reported here on Thursday. The two discussed the preparations for the upcoming Bulgarian-Egyptian Intergovernmental Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, which will be held in Cairo. The meeting revealed that the Intergovernmental Commission has not been convened for nearly six years.
"Egypt is a key partner for Bulgaria and I believe that through joint efforts we will expand our economic cooperation," Dilov said.
The Economy Minister and the Egyptian Ambassador emphasised that the upcoming Second Session marks a new beginning in the bilateral economic dialogue between the two countries, will encourage investments, innovations and industrial cooperation, and will provide an opportunity to specify priorities and identify new areas.
The meeting also discussed the participation of a Bulgarian business delegation, including representatives of various sectors of mutual interest. Two key documents are expected to be signed during the Intergovernmental Commission – a Memorandum of Understanding between the small and medium-sized enterprise agencies of the two countries and a Memorandum of Partnership between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and an Egyptian institute.
Dilov expressed his gratitude for the assistance of the Egyptian Embassy and highlighted the importance of good coordination for the successful implementation of bilateral initiatives.
“Bulgaria and Egypt share a common aspiration for modernization, technological progress and the development of industrial and innovation potential. This makes us natural long-term partners,” he said.
