Bulgarian Geography Students Win 4 Medals at World's Most Prestigious Geography Competition

Bulgarian high school students won 3 silver and 1 bronze medal at the 21st International Geography Olympiad (iGeo), the Association of Olympic Teams in Natural Sciences said here on Friday.

This is one of Bulgaria’s best performances at the competition. The tournament brought together students from over 50 countries in Thailand from July 26 to August 1. 

The silver medals were awarded to Zvezdemir Penev (11th grade, Mathematics High School – Varna), Boris Donkov (11th grade, National High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics – Sofia), and Nikolay Kostadinov (12th grade, Mathematics High School – Varna). The bronze medal was earned by Kristian Petrov (12th grade, High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences – Kazanlak).

The team was led by Chief Assistant Dr. Kaloyan Tsvetkov and Associate Professor Dr. Dimitar Zhelev from the Faculty of Geology and Geography at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".

Bulgaria has achieved one of its best performances at the International Geography Olympiad (iGeo), said the team leaders after the award ceremony, quoted by the Association.
