The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) will host the 20th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media on May 24 and 25 in Sofia, the St. St. Cyril and Methodius Klisura Monastery, and Varshets (Northwestern Bulgaria). Mottoed Media and Knowledge, the event will bring together a record number of participants, including 46 journalists from 34 Bulgarian-language media outlets in 25 countries, alongside representatives of 36 media organizations from Bulgaria.
The forum will be opened at BTA’s National Press Club in Sofia by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, (King of Bulgaria from 1943 to 1946 and prime minister from 2001 to 2005). Welcoming remarks will also be delivered by Vice President Iliana Iotova, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev, and other senior officials and cultural figures.
The discussions are divided into three panels: “Culture in the Media,” moderated by Assoc. Prof. Georgi Lozanov; “New Knowledge in the Media,” featuring innovation experts and media executives; and “Bulgarians in the 21st Century World and the Media,” taking place in Varshets. A concluding session, “Moments for BG Institutions: A Bridge to BG Media Worldwide,” will address the intersection of diplomacy and media.
Since its inception in 2005, the World Meeting of Bulgarian Media has been a signature BTA initiative, previously hosted in cities such as Chicago, Vienna, and Madrid. Last year's event took place in Odesa.
