Tenor Bogomil Spirov, one of the biggest stars of the National Music Theatre, has passed away, the Music Theatre told BTA on Tuesday. Spirov died after a traffic accident in downtown Sofia on Monday, the Interior Ministry reported.
Around 4 p.m., the 57-year-old man was hit by a truck on an intersection while driving his motorbike. Immediately after the accident, Spirov was taken to the Pirogov emergency hospital, but later passed away.
The truck's driver, 57, tested negative for alcohol and drugs. Initial reports say the truck was travelling behind the motorcycle when the accident occurred, the Interior Ministry said.
Bogomil Spirov was born on June 5, 1968 in Sofia. In 1994, he graduated from the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Music Academy in Sofia in opera singing under Nikola Vasilev, a baritone from Sofia Opera. Since 1993, he has been an actor at the Stefan Makedonski National Music Theatre in Sofia, where he has performed the leading roles in dozens of operettas and musicals.
