The 30th jubilee contest in Japanese speech will be held at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) on April 27, said the Japanese Embassy in Bulgaria, which is the organizer of the event, together with the St. St. Cyril and Methodius International Foundation.

The competition was held for the first time in Bulgaria in 1995 and since then once a year has provided an opportunity for Japanese language learners from all over the country to demonstrate their oratorical abilities and the results of their previous Japanese language training.

The competition is in two sections - for beginners and advanced, and this year a total of 14 people will participate - 6 in the beginner category and eight in the advanced category. Each participant must present their speech on a topic of their choice within 3 minutes. The Japan-Bulgaria Friendship Association and the Japanese Club in Sofia traditionally provide the first prizes in both sections of the competition. The grand prize of the competition is a week-long trip to Japan.
